LEDAS to apply its CAD/PLM expertise to bioinformatics in partnership with Laboratory of Theoretical Genetics, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences

LEDAS Ltd., a leading provider of constraint-based computational technologies for CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM and ERP software, announces strategic partnership with Laboratory of Theoretical Genetics, Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. The partnership aims at development and marketing of competitive software products for bioinformatics. Based on techniques of applied mathematics, informatics, statistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, chemistry, and biochemistry, bioinformatics solves biological problems usually on the molecular level. Typical problems include sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression and protein-protein interactions, and the modeling of evolution. Bioinformatics is crucial for breakthrough in several areas of life sciences, such as drug discovery, molecular medicine and agriculture.

Laboratory of Theoretical Genetics carries out world-class research in the filed of bioinformatics. Research topics include simulation of structural and functional make-up of genetic macromolecules, computer simulation of complex molecular-genetic systems, and development of large-scale information systems for analysis of molecular-biologic and molecular-genetic data. Based on its scientific potential and experience, the Laboratory is able to introduce innovative solutions to the market and add new value to the existing products.

LEDAS possesses know-how technologies in the filed of computational geometry, applied mathematics, and artificial intelligence, which are used worldwide for spatial modeling, computer-aided design, and are applicable for bioinformatics as well. Qualified scientists, engineers and programmers of LEDAS have rich and successful experience in application and adaptation of these and similar technologies for the world leading companies. Having successfully performed numerous contracts for its international customers, LEDAS is an experienced player on the global markets and is interested in a broader commercial application of its technologies, knowledge and experience on the bioinformatics market.

“Partnership of the two champions in computational biology and computer-aided design technologies allows us to develop and release competitive software products for the international bioinformatics market,” says David Levin, President and CEO, LEDAS Ltd. “These products will be based on both existing solutions and the results of some novel projects, which success is guaranteed by our unique synergy.”

Within the framework of its free-of-charge academic license program, LEDAS grants its software products, including geometric constraint solver and interval mathematics solver, to be used in the Laboratory of Theoretical Genetics.
