3D Web, Additive Manufacturing, Kernels and Solvers Raised LEDAS Earnings in 2020

January 25, 2021 — LEDAS today reported that its 2020 financial year was profitable, thanks to positive growth in the primary areas of its engineering software expertise. This was especially so in 3D web and cloud solutions, additive manufacturing and CAM, and geometric engines, including 3D kernels and constraint solvers. The company is the well-known provider of R&D (research and development) services in the global engineering software market.

LEDAS Earnings in 2020

Kernels and Solvers. LEDAS enjoyed its highest growth in earnings, 45%, in the area of complex geometric engines for CAD (computer aided design) software. The company has accumulated a vast experience in this area, going back to 2002-2011 when Dassault Systѐmes contracted LEDAS for an intensive development cycle of key algorithmic components for the high-end CATIA design system.

Components, such as 3D kernels and geometric constraint solvers, are very demanding in their development as they require programmers with excellent math and computer science skills. As a result, LEDAS is recognized for its development of the LGS 2D and 3D constraint solvers, and as a key participant in the development of several new 3D kernels. With the recent signing of a new customer in Asia, LEDAS now has six clients in this domain, more than in any other of its areas of focus. Building these kinds of software components is done over longer periods of time, and so pandemics do not have a significant impact on these projects.

AM, CAM, and Digital Medicine. Additive manufacturing and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) software development provided LEDAS with its highest proportion of earnings in 2020 (30%), surpassing digital medicine software development by a notch (29%). These two areas are the ones most important in terms of revenues for 2019 and 2020, but are not growing as fast as the more dynamic area of 3D modeling engines: 35% and 5%, respectively. Additive manufacturing during last five to ten years has become a rapidly developing industry, and so signing a new contract with a NYSE-traded corporation will ensure that the remarkable growth in the CAM business will continue for LEDAS.

3D Web. An existing focus of LEDAS on 3D browser solutions became in 2020 even more important, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Long-lasting restrictions on business trips and several waves of lockdowns completely changed the way in which industries operate locally and globally.

The pandemic helped vendors of cloud solutions grow their businesses, and LEDAS was no different. It saw a 30% growth in its 3D cloud solutions. The projects are based on its own 3D cloud platform, which provide users the ability to load, store, view, and navigate geometric models, as well as collaborate in 3D web environments.

About LEDAS

For 20 years, LEDAS has operated in the global CAD software development market. It takes on ambitious R&D software projects that employ its staff with especially high qualifications in mathematics and computer science. The company is best known for constraint-based tools and component technologies it developed for the CAD, CAM, CAE, and PDM software.

The LEDAS success stories include custom software development projects completed for Dassault Systѐmes, Cimatron, JETCAM, and others. These companies put innovative engineering software products on the market using R&D services from LEDAS.
